Book your vehicle in, drop it off and, by the time you collect it, your vehicle will be fully compliant.
What are Chapter 8 chevrons?
Reflective chevrons increase the visibility of vehicles that need to stop regularly on high-speed roads for work purposes. Most people simply call these markings “Chapter 8 chevrons”. The law requires these markings in a number of cases. Even when not required, we highly recommend these markings for all work vehicles that stop on the road.
“Chapter 8” refers to the final chapter of the Traffic Signs Manual released in 2009. It legislates for “Traffic Safety Measures and Signs for Road Works and Temporary Situations”. Chapter 8 is further divided into three parts, Part 1: Design, Part 2: Operations and Part 3: 2016 Update, which you can download by clicking on the links. Within Part 2: Operations, section O5 deals with “General Vehicle Issues” and sub-section O5.2 discusses “Conspicuity”.
We offer our own quick reference guide to Chapter 8 on our Downloads page.

What Other Legislation is There?
In addition to Chapter 8, some vehicles may be required to meet the specifications of UNECE Regulation 48. The 2011 update to the UK Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989 brought it in line with UNECE Regulation 48. You can read more about the relationship between RVLR and UNECE R48 here.
